The Bean House is a natural home that incorporates a range of sustainable building techniques. It is made up of the main structure with a large thermal tower, deck and adjoining granny flat.
The main structure follows a circular "bean" shaped form. The tower attached to this structure acts as a thermal chimney for heat to escape during warmer months and encourage ventilation. External walls are constructed from light earth and compressed earth blocks. The cyclical granny flat houses a small kitchen, bathroom and mezzanine bedroom. Like the Green House, the Bean House follows the slope of the site to appear as though the structure is emerging from the earth.
The dwelling will strive to use as much recycled and repurposed material as possible such as timber flooring, fixtures, furniture etc.
